# MediaMTX

MediaMTX receives the video from OBS and provides it to LuigiScreen.

## Use the generated configuration

Run the appropriate `/screen mediamtx ...` command first.

Copy:

```
plugins/LuigiScreen/mediamtx/<SITUATION>/mediamtx.yml
```

beside the MediaMTX executable.

## Windows

Expected layout:

```
MediaMTX/
  mediamtx.exe
  mediamtx.yml
```

Start `mediamtx.exe`.

## Linux

Expected layout:

```
/opt/mediamtx/
  mediamtx
  mediamtx.yml
```

Make the binary executable and start it:

```bash
chmod +x mediamtx
./mediamtx
```

For 24/7 operation, create a systemd service or use Docker.

## Generated security model

The generated config:

* Enables RTMP
* Uses TCP port `55556` by default
* Disables RTSP, HLS, WebRTC, SRT and MoQ
* Gives `streamer` publish-only access to path `screen`
* Restricts local readers to loopback
* Creates a separate `luigiscreen` read-only account for external hosting

## Restart requirement

After replacing `mediamtx.yml`, restart MediaMTX. MediaMTX must show that its RTMP listener is active on the expected port.

## Private files

Do not upload these files publicly:

```
setup.txt
mediamtx.yml
config.yml
```

They can contain generated credentials or private network information.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://unknown-56-works.gitbook.io/luigiscreen/screens-and-streaming/mediamtx.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
